# How do I buy a domain name on Faaaster?

The **Domains** section of the left menu lets you search for and register a domain name. The **Buy a domain name** button opens the search.

> **No hosting subscription is required to buy a domain.** You can register one even before you've created a site.

> **Purchasing is restricted to the organization's owner and administrators.** For any other role, the order is refused.

## Search for a domain

1. Open the **Domains** section of the left menu.
2. Click **Buy a domain name**.
3. Enter the name you want, with its extension (`myproject.com`), then **Search**.

The result shows the domain with its **yearly price**, or the label **Unavailable** if it's already taken. The **Subscribe** button is only active for an available domain.

> **Faaaster suggests alternatives.** If `myproject.com` is taken, the search automatically shows the same name on the other available extensions — `monprojet.com`, `monprojet.io`, and so on.

## How much it costs, and for how long

**The price depends on the extension**, and there's no price list to check: the exact price of the domain you're after is displayed directly in the search result, in **euros per year**.

Registration is for **one year**, and renewal is yearly as well. It is **automatic by default**.

> **Compare by extension, not by name.** A `.fr` and a `.io` don't cost the same: if budget matters, the list of alternatives shown in the search gives you both pieces of information at once — availability and price.

## Place your order

Once you've chosen the domain with **Subscribe**, the form asks for:

1. **The billing account** — the **Owner** field lists your organizations, with the default one first.
2. **The billing address** — first name, last name, company, email, phone (in the format `+33.123456789`), address, ZIP code, city, country and state. It is pre-filled with the billing address of the chosen organization, if it has one.
3. **Payment**, after **Submit**, on our provider's secure page.

> The domain is attached to the organization chosen in the **Owner** field: that's the organization that will find it in its **Domains** list.

> ⚠️ **The details you enter are those of the domain's official owner**, as declared to the registrar. They must be accurate: they are what counts in the event of a dispute, and an invalid email address can lead to the domain being suspended.

## Are your contact details public?

**No.** WHOIS privacy is enabled **systematically, at no extra cost and with no setting to change**: when the domain is created, Faaaster requests that both your **personal data** and your **email address** be masked.

In practice, a WHOIS lookup on your domain reveals neither your postal address, nor your phone number, nor your email.

> **This protects you from unsolicited marketing, not from the law.** Your real contact details remain known to the registrar and are disclosed to the competent authorities upon legitimate request. Masking spares you the bots that harvest WHOIS data to resell prospecting databases.

## After the purchase

The domain appears in the **Domains** section, with its **Renewal** date and its **Auto renewal** turned on by default. Its DNS zone is already initialized: you can add your records to it right away.

> **Buying a domain doesn't attach it to a site.** That's a separate step: open the site in question, **Domains** tab, then **Edit** in the **Primary domain** block (or **Add a domain** for a secondary domain). HTTPS is then issued automatically.
