# How do I add my SSH key on Faaaster?

From your **Profile**, the **Public SSH Key** section lets you either **Generate SSH Key** or **Set custom SSH Key**. This key applies to **all your sites**.

> The interface puts it this way: "You can generate a new SSH key pair or set a custom SSH key in order to easily connect to all your sites through SSH or SFTP."

## Generating a key from Faaaster

1. Open your **Profile**.
2. In the **Public SSH Key** section, click **Generate SSH Key**.
3. The **private key is downloaded** to your computer (`id_rsa` file).

> **The private key can only be downloaded once.** Keep it somewhere safe: it must never be shared or committed to a repository.

## Using your own key

Paste your existing **public** key — the contents of the file ending in `.pub`, never the private key — into the **Public SSH Key** field, then click **Set custom SSH Key**.

## Next steps

Once the key is registered, each site's SSH and SFTP access details are available from its **Access** tab.
