# How do I work on my Faaaster site from VS Code?

The site's **Access** tab, **VS Code / Open VSX extension** section, lets you install the Faaaster extension in your editor. The interface describes it like this: "Connect your site with one click from VS Code through a secure SSH tunnel."

## Install the extension

Two buttons are offered, depending on your editor:

- **Install from Marketplace** — for **Visual Studio Code**.
- **Install from Open VSX** — for **Cursor**, **VSCodium**, **Windsurf** and other compatible editors.

## What the extension gives you

According to the interface: a connection to your site **with one click**, through a **secure SSH tunnel**. You work on the site's files from your usual editor, with your settings, your extensions and your terminal.

> **Not to be confused** with the online file editor, available in the same tab: that one is used in the browser, while the VS Code extension is used from your computer.

## The prerequisite

> ⚠️ **Your editor's "Remote - SSH" extension is required.** The Faaaster extension relies on it to open the connection. If it's missing, the Faaaster panel in your editor offers to install it with **Install Remote - SSH**.

Then, in the Faaaster panel, click **Login to Faaaster** and sign in from your browser: your sites appear in the editor's sidebar. The first time you connect to a site, the extension turns on its development mode, which takes about two minutes.

> **No SSH key to add to your profile.** On macOS and Linux, the extension automatically creates and installs its own key, which is then used for all your sites. On Windows, it copies a password to your clipboard: paste it when the editor asks for it.
