How do I transfer a domain name to Faaaster or to another registrar?
Both directions are possible. An outgoing transfer — leaving Faaaster for another registrar — is handled from the interface; an incoming transfer is requested from support.
Bringing a domain to Faaaster
It's possible, and it goes through support. There's no incoming transfer screen in the interface: the request is handled manually by the Faaaster team.
What to prepare at your current registrar
- Unlock the domain — most registrars set a transfer lock by default.
- Get the authorization code, often called the AUTH, EPP or auth-info code.
- Check the owner's email address declared in WHOIS: that's where the confirmation requests are sent.
Then contact support with the domain name and the authorization code.
⚠️ A domain transferred less than 60 days ago cannot be transferred again. This is a registry rule, not a Faaaster limit: if you have just bought or transferred the domain, you'll have to wait.
Do you really need to transfer?
Often, no. What determines where your site is hosted is the DNS records — not the registrar. You can leave the domain with OVH, Gandi or Namecheap and simply point its records to Faaaster: the site works exactly the same way.
A transfer is mainly useful to consolidate billing and manage DNS from the same interface as your sites.
A transfer takes several days and can't be undone if it fails along the way. If your site needs to go live quickly, connect the domain through its DNS first, and consider the transfer later, without time pressure.
Transferring a Faaaster domain to another registrar
The Transfer section of the domain's management is titled Outgoing transfer — "Prepare the domain before transferring it to another registrar."
1. Unlock the transfer
The Transfer lock is on by default: "The domain cannot be transferred while this lock is active."
- Open the domain, Transfer section.
- Turn off the Transfer lock switch.
- Confirm with Unlock in the Unlock transfer? window.
The request takes a few minutes to take effect. The interface shows the pending status in the meantime.
Restricted to the organization's owner and administrators. For other roles, the switch is grayed out and the AUTH code is not shown.

2. Get the AUTH code
The AUTH code appears under the lock, with a copy icon (Copy AUTH code). This is the code your new registrar will ask you for to start the transfer.
3. Start the transfer at the new registrar
The rest happens on their side: you enter the domain and the AUTH code there.
⚠️ Services linked to the domain may stop working after the transfer. The interface warns you about this when you unlock. Your DNS records, your email forwarding and any Faaaster Email service are tied to the domain's management at Faaaster: plan to recreate them at the new registrar.
⚠️ Only unlock when you're ready to transfer. A lock that is lifted and forgotten leaves the domain exposed to an unwanted transfer, since the AUTH code is displayed right below it. The lock can be turned back on from the same screen, and the interface always shows its status — Lock enabled or Lock disabled.
Treat the AUTH code like a password: with the lock lifted, it's all it takes to move your domain elsewhere.
Some extensions don't support the lock — the interface then displays "This extension does not allow managing a transfer lock from Gandi." The transfer is still possible with the AUTH code.
